For J. Ben Morton, Donald Trump’s Day One executive order declaring there are only two immutable sexes — male and female — came as a head-spinning shock.

“It felt like someone had walked up behind me and walloped me over the head with a phone book,” Morton said.

Donald Trump tried to force this trans woman into a men’s prison. A judge just stopped him.
It’s the first legal victory challenging President Trump’s “two sexes” executive order.

Eight years ago, the Tennessee native and writer, then 32, endured another slow-rolling temblor when his ancestry saliva sample was flagged. The company wanted to schedule a phone call.

“I replied within minutes, puzzled as to why in the world this ancestry company wanted to talk to me about my obvious northwestern European heritage. I’m as white as it gets,” Morton wrote in an essay for the Huffington Post.

“I answered my phone on the first ring.”

“’Based on your answers, we’ve identified a mismatch in your DNA,’” a company representative told Morton after a long interrogation about his health history and the provenance of his saliva.

“A mismatch?” he asked.

“‘Well,’ she said, searching for the best customer-friendly language, ‘you completed your profile as “male.” But your DNA appears to be female.'”

“Holding the phone to my ear, I laughed nervously, stalling for time while my brain searched its depths for any remaining knowledge on DNA,” Morton wrote.

“I was taught that boys had XY chromosomes, male genitalia, and high testosterone and that girls had XX chromosomes, female genitalia, and relatively low testosterone. I didn’t know that various combinations of chromosomes, hormones, external genitalia, and internal reproductive structures existed.”

“I never learned that sex exists on a spectrum,” he shared.

Morton spent months “trying to grasp how I could have female DNA” before meeting with a geneticist at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.

“How do you feel about the word ‘intersex’?” she asked.

“Intersex,” the geneticist told Morton, “is an umbrella term used to describe a wide range of natural variations that can affect things like genitals, hormones, and chromosomes. Sometimes these characteristics are visible at birth, sometimes they appear during puberty, but often they are never physically noticeable.”

An estimated 5.6 million people in the U.S. may have intersex traits, “making them as common as red hair globally.”

Morton was diagnosed with a “disorder of sexual development.”

“‘Specifically, your variation is called XX testicular DSD,’” the geneticist told him.

In Morton’s case, that meant “the translocation of an SRY gene.” Some development of male sex organs had occurred, “but my internal functioning was more blurred, including irregular hormone production and likely infertility.”

“Grappling with my health prior to these tests, I’d often felt like something was wrong with me — that parts of me were broken compared with other guys my age.” Morton wrote. “I couldn’t build muscle as quickly, I was usually tired, and my brain seemed to operate differently. Now I had a reason why I didn’t fit the typical mold.”

The diagnosis, Morton wrote, “allowed me to receive treatments that provide me with greater energy and quality of life. But more than that, my diagnosis has played a major role in my politics, as I empathize more with people who don’t fit typical molds.”

“I’m on the easy-to-ignore end of the sex and gender spectrums, but many others have more urgent needs that require them to fight daily for health care necessities and acknowledgment of their existence. And even those who aren’t intersex or transgender should be bothered by the president’s order because, at a minimum, it allows government interference in private matters — not to mention that it’s just plain cruel.”

“If sex is strictly defined at birth with no room for changes, men like myself could face challenges in legal recognition, and it opens doors for the government and private companies to discriminate,” he said.

“DNA proof or not, intersex and trans people are real, and we should believe them,” Morton wrote. “An executive order effectively declaring the nonexistence of intersex and trans individuals will never make us cease to exist. It just puts our lives at risk.”

Dems Demand Scrutiny Of Musk’s Conflicts Of Interest

Dems Demand Scrutiny Of Musk’s Conflicts Of Interest:

ABC News reports:

House Judiciary Democrats sent a terse letter Friday to newly minted Attorney General Pam Bondi, expressing concerns that Elon Musk’s role at DOGE creates “conflicts of interest” due to what they said are his “sprawling financial interests” in federal contracts and subsidies.

Democrats contend that Musk’s companies’ routine engagement with federal agencies on defense contracts, telecommunications regulations, and energy policy is complicated by his participation in governmental matters impacting those sectors — which risks violating the law because his financial interests could be directly implicated.

“Mr. Musk’s position as an SGE demands heightened scrutiny,” the lawmakers write in their letter to Bondi that was first obtained by ABC News. “The law’s criminal and civil enforcement mechanisms, which fall solely under the DOJ’s authority, must be rigorously applied to prevent actual or perceived conflicts of interest.”

Florida Man Found Not Guilty In Killing Of Gay Man He’d Tormented At City Dog Park With Anti-Gay Slurs [Video]

Florida Man Found Not Guilty In Killing Of Gay Man He’d Tormented At City Dog Park With Anti-Gay Slurs [Video]:

Tampa’s ABC affiliate reports:

A Hillsborough County jury found Gerald Declan Radford not guilty for the shooting of a gay man at a Tampa dog park last year. Radford was charged with second-degree murder for the death of a gay man at a Tampa dog park in 2024.

According to prosecutors, Radford fatally shot Walt Lay last February after witnesses said Radford taunted Lay for months because he was gay.

Radford claimed he shot Lay in self-defense after Lay attacked him, but a judge denied Radford’s motion to have the case dismissed following a stand-your-ground hearing.

The Tampa Bay Times reports:

Friends and acquaintances who knew both men said they initially got along as they hung out at the park. But they disagreed about politics and issues like COVID-19, vaccines and mask mandates. Radford started using homophobic slurs toward Lay, who acquaintances said eventually started avoiding Radford by hanging out in another part of the park.

One witness testified that one week before the killing, Radford, realizing that Lay had arrived at the park, said, “Here comes that fucking faggot, I want to kill him.”

Another witness, who ran into Radford at the park the day before the shooting, testified that Radford said of Lay, “I’m going to hit that guy, I’m going to break his jaw.” The witness testified that Radford said he liked to walk up to Lay quickly “to try and scare him,” something other witnesses had seen him do in the past.

Tampa’s Fox affiliate reports:

Prosecuting attorney Justin Diaz used a baseball analogy when mentioning a video Lay recorded the day before the shooting, saying Radford threatened to kill him. “Gerald Radford is standing at the batter’s box in the World Series, and he’s calling his shot,” Diaz said. “Twenty-four hours before Mr. Lay is dead, Gerald Radford is telling him ‘you’re going to die.'”

The defense acknowledged Radford’s use of hateful language while maintaining his claim of self-defense. “No matter how offensive those words in 2024 and 2025 are, that in and of it itself, somebody who uses hateful terminology or is a self-described asshole does not make them a criminal. It does not make them a murderer,” defense attorney Matthew Futch said.

Kanye: “I Don’t Like Jews, I’m A Nazi And I Love Hitler”:

The Daily Beast reports:

Neo-Nazi influencer Nick Fuentes has co-signed an anti-Semitic social media tirade from the rapper Kanye West.

In the middle of an overnight flood of posts calling for disgraced mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs to be freed following his September arrest on charges of sex trafficking, West also ranted against Jews. “F— ALL OF YOUR F— A– UNFAIR BUSINESS DEALS ANY JEWISH PERSON THAT DOES BUSINESS WITH ME NEEDS TO KNOW I DONT LIKE OR TRUST ANY JEWISH PERSON,” he wrote.

In the post’s comments, the white nationalist and ultra-misogynist Fuentes replied, “The Leader” along with a salute.

Fox host makes sick joke about teen suicide as Donald Trump signed anti-trans order

Fox host makes sick joke about teen suicide as Donald Trump signed anti-trans order:
jesse-watters.png?auto=format&auto=compr

One would think that conservatives would be happy that Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House and are able to pass all the laws that they have been dreaming about, but Fox News host Jesse Watters seemed downright angry that trans people continue to exist even as Donald Trump signed an executive order banning trans girls from playing school sports.

Watters was on Fox’s The Five discussing Trump’s executive order from yesterday to block federal funding for schools that allow transgender girls and women to compete on girls’ and women’s sports teams. The order also directs the Department of Justice to prosecute schools that allow trans female athletes in female sports programs.

Jesse Watters says gays are “nuts” to feel threatened by Donald Trump’s win
Watters said that Trump will be “fair” as president, so LGBTQ+ people shouldn’t worry about a thing.

“Jesse, what do you think?” said Jessica Tarlov, The Five’s resident liberal.

“How many trans teens killed themselves today, Jessica?” Watters asked.

“I didn’t get my update,” Tarlov responded coldly. “I don’t know.”

“Well, no, because you guys said that if you wouldn’t let trans teens do whatever they wanted, they were going to become suicidal, so I’m just wondering, you know, between this and the no surgeries we should see a rash in teenage suicides this year, right?” Watters said angrily.

Conservatives have often mocked the idea that LGBTQ+ people – especially transgender teens – experience a higher suicide rate than the general population. They especially take issue with the idea that the higher suicide rate is a result of rampant discrimination since that implies that the solution is to stop discrimination.

“You seem a little gleeful about-” Tarlov started.

“Obviously, I’m being sarcastic because that was a BS excuse!” Watters shouted over Tarlov. He then quickly tried to change the topic.

Even though trans people have been competing in school sports as their gender for years in some states, conservative activists in 2020 decided to make this a major issue in order to get more votes for Republicans in elections. One conservative activist, Terry Schilling, admitted to this tactic at the time.

Over the next four years, 27 states passed laws banning trans girls from participating in school sports. In that time, suicide hotlines like The Trevor Project saw an increase in calls, especially from states that were debating anti-trans laws. Another study found that the passage of anti-trans laws leads to a 72% increase in attempted suicide rates, on top of already high LGBTQ+ suicide rates.

Since Trump took office last month and signed multiple anti-trans executive orders, The Trevor Project said that it has experienced a 33% increase in calls. The Rainbow Youth Project USA Foundation hotline received over 1,400 calls by early Monday afternoon on the day of Trump’s inauguration. Before Trump won the election, the organization fielded about 3,765 calls per month.

Fox Hires Lara Trump To Host New Prime Time Show

Fox Hires Lara Trump To Host New Prime Time Show:

The New York Times reports:

President Trump persuaded several Fox News hosts to leave the network and take up major roles in his administration. Now a Trump is joining the network. Lara Trump, Mr. Trump’s daughter-in-law and a former co-chair of the Republican Party, will begin hosting a new weekend show on Fox News on Feb. 22, the network is set to announce on Wednesday.

The president and his children are frequent guests on Fox News. But there is no precedent for the close relative of a sitting president to host a high-profile show on a major television news channel.

“My View with Lara Trump,” expected to air on Saturdays at 9 p.m. Eastern, will include a mix of analysis and interviews with influential figures. The network is describing the show as focused on “the return of common sense to all corners of American life,” echoing a phrase, “common sense,” that the Trump administration has frequently deployed.

GOP Reps Rush Into Oversight Committee Hearing Room To Block Dem Resolution To Subpoena Musk

GOP Reps Rush Into Oversight Committee Hearing Room To Block Dem Resolution To Subpoena Musk:

Courthouse News reports:

Congressional Democrats on Tuesday unveiled legislation they say is a response to an illegal effort by President Donald Trump and his allies to unilaterally dismantle federal agencies. But as Democrats took their most concrete steps yet to oppose meddling by the White House and billionaire Elon Musk, Republicans positioned the administration’s actions as an above-board review of how certain agencies spend government cash.

Entitled the “Stop the Steal Act” — an ironic nod to election denial claims pushed by Trump — the Democrats’ measure would, among other things, deny special government employees access to sensitive agency information. The measure would also block access to such information from anyone with “conflicts of interest or lack of appropriate clearance,” Schumer said, and would add personal tax information to existing privacy protections.
